Green Horizons-The next generation of EU eco-leaders

Erasmus+ KA220 YOUTH - Cooperation Partnerships Project Number 2024-2-IT03-KA220-YOU-000288769

Contex of the project :Green Horizons was born from the need for young people and youth organisations to be more active in climate action. The impact of the climate crisis is far-reaching and affects young people. An international survey on climate anxiety found that out of 60% young people (16-25) feel very or extremely worried about the effects of climate change, with most feeling "sad, scared, angry and helpless" (Climate anxiety in children and young people and their beliefs about government responses to climate change: a global survey, 2021). By taking part in climate activism, they feel empowered, able to make a difference and have more control over their future. The growing distrust of young people in institutions is accompanied by the emergence of eco-activist groups often criticized for their radical intervention methodologies, an expression of the frustration of the younger generations in the face of the difficulties of the green transition that for many is proceeding slowly. This contributes on the one hand to the radicalization of a part of young people who therefore interface even less with institutional presences and on the other to an even greater disinterest of those young people who do not see themselves in their activist peers but not even in institutions experienced as anachronistic with respect to the challenges of the present. Thus the urgent need to repair the existing fractures between non-formal and institutional policies emerges, reappropriating the term youth activism, especially within organizations that have young people at the center of their work.

Objectives : The project aims to raise awareness among young people about the climate crisis, providing them with effective tools to take action in local, national and European contexts, guiding them in the creation of NGOs that respond to the systemic problems that constitute the climate crisis and that can in turn encourage other young people to take action through activism practices imagined by and for young people themselves. .

Implementation :A kick -off meeting was held on 26 and 27 th may 2025 in Italie ,at the Eurobox’s office.Transnational, local and digital activities will be implemented: Online MTM, Final Meeting for project management, a Learning Mobility, a Bootcamp and a series of multiplier events in each partner country. The four WPs include the creation of tools for political engagement, the launch of new youth-led and climate-focused organizations and an online incubator for youth organizations and stakeholders at local and European level.

Main results: R1. A toolkit on digital activism practices with resources to support and encourage the initiative of young people and youth workers on climate issues. R2. A guide on political participation within the EU with a focus on climate change to strengthen young people's trust in democratic institutions and values. R3. An Online NGO Incubator: a knowledge repository that provides young people with the tools, skills and knowledge needed to create youth NGOs.

The partners involved in the project are Eurobox ( Italy) as coordinator , Ajuntamiento de Maracena (Spain), Youth Eurasia (Turkey), Solidaritet för Ungdomens Framtid (Sweden) and Via Kreaktion (Germany) as participant organisations.
